The escape apparatus KA-60
wg. EN 13794 : 2002 - protection period -60 min.

APPLICATION

The escape apparatus KA-60 type is designed for the protection of the wearer's airways during withdrawal (escape) from the area endangered by toxic gases harmful to health and from the area where the oxygen content in the atmosphere is insufficient for breathing.

The escape apparatus KA-60 type is designed for the underground mining and other branches of industry. The apparatus can be applied in underground mine compartments, in non-methane and methane fields classified in "a", "b" and "c" categories of methane explosion hazard. The apparatus is designed for escape from the area endangered by fire, breakout or breakdown of chemical installation. The apparatus is disposable. The apparatus KA-60 type is designed only for escape purposes in an emergency and must not be used for work purposes.

      Design

by the means of the fastener, which is protected with the sealing. In the bottom cover, there is a metal closing strip, on which the serial number of the apparatus as well as the date of production and the expiry date are placed. The bottom cover has four grips to which the carrying strap is fixed. The carrying strip gives the possibility to carry the apparatus on the back or on the shoulder. The strap for carrying the apparatus in hand is fixed to the top grips. The casing of the apparatus is made of plastic which does not accumulate the electrostatic charges The self- contained closed- circuit breathing chemical oxygen apparatus KA-60 type consists of an absorber which filling absorbs carbon dioxide and humidity from the exhaled air and generates breathing oxygen. The breathing hose with the heat exchanger, the mouthpiece and the nose clip are fixed to the upper part of the absorber. The breathing bag with the release valve are fixed to the bottom part of the absorber. The thermal insulation, to which the binding strap is fixed, is placed on the side surface of the absorber. The goggles and the plug for tightening of the breathing hose are fixed to the bottom of the absorber. The absorber is placed in the bottom cover of the apparatus, to which the oxygen cylinder and the cylinder valve arm are fixed. All is covered up with the top casing of the apparatus, to which the valve arm strand is also fixed. The indicator, placed on the top cover, shows the unsealing of the apparatus (the increase of the humidity under the casing). The top and the bottom cover are closed by the means of the fastener, which is protected with the sealing. Operation

Having opened the fastener and removing the top cover, the strand fixed to the top cover opens the cylinder valve and the oxygen flows from the cylinder and fills the breathing bag. That oxygen is necessary for breathing during the first minutes after the opening of the apparatus. Next, the wearer takes the plug out of the mouthpiece and puts it into the mouth, then puts the nose clip on his nose, and starts breathing. The exhaled air flows through the complete breathing hose into the absorber, and there causes the chemical reaction with the increased heat generation. During the chemical reaction carbon dioxide and humidity are absorbed and oxygen is released. The excess oxygen is accumulated in the breathing bag. During the inhalation the gas mixture enriched with the oxygen from the breathing bag flows through the filling of the absorber and breathing hose with heat exchanger to the wearer's lungs. The heat exchanger reduces significantly the temperature of the inhaled air and increases the comfort of the wearer. The excess air generated in the apparatus is taken outside by the relief valve.
